Istanbul, Turkey, sits on several active fault lines, making it susceptible to earthquakes. A major earthquake in Istanbul has long been a concern due to its potential devastating impact on the city.
A major Istanbul earthquake, often referred to as the "Big Istanbul Earthquake" or "Istanbul Megaquake," is a looming threat that could result in widespread destruction and loss of life. Istanbul's dense population and historical significance amplify the potential consequences.
The earthquake could have a magnitude exceeding 7.0 on the Richter scale, causing intense shaking and structural damage to buildings, bridges, and infrastructure throughout the city. Given Istanbul's location along the Bosphorus Strait, the earthquake might also trigger tsunamis and affect both the European and Asian sides of the city.
This project aims to capture some of the sites that are near to Istanbuls famous buildings and districts, where the buildings carry a possibility of collapsing or changing signifacntly after the earthquake hits.
P.S. Locations of every photo has been recorded and it is planned to revisit the sites after the earthquake to also document the aftermath
Since I was a child, I've experienced unsettling nightmares featuring plants. As I grew older, I developed a mild phobia towards them, particularly due to their perceived vitality and squishy texture, which I find unpleasant. Paradoxically, I'm also drawn to their distant beauty with their shiny colors, leading to a complex love-hate relationship that has captivated me. Consequently, I've chosen to capture certain details of plants through photography to explore this unique fascination.
